Cap Blanc Nez is a rather melancholic and dramatic piano waltz inspired by my days spent at Cap Blanc Nez.
Cap Blanc Nez is a town located on the Côte d'Opale, in the French department of Pas de Calais, in northern France. It is in fact a vast area overlooking the North Sea with white cliffs even over 100 meters high that drop straight down to the sandy beaches. In particularly favorable weather conditions you can see the white cliffs of Dover in England, which are about forty kilometers away from the Cap Blanc Nez, completely similar to the French cliffs. Together with the Cap Gris-Nez it forms the so-called Site des deux Caps. Of course I wrote another song for Cap Gris Nez, it's part of the "SUPER 8" album.
In my days spent in this place I was fascinated by these steep and white cliffs, from the top of which I could admire the sea which, according to the tides, receded so much that it seemed a completely different place depending on the time of the tide. The bed of the sea left uncovered by the water looked like a great desert under the cliff, while far in the distance I could see the water almost like a mirage. For me, who am used to living on the Mediterranean, this is a rather surreal landscape...
This is song was featured in the soundtrack of Isabel Coixet's "Foodie Love" TV series, which I invite you to see as the mood of the song fits perfectly with the story and images of the series.
